About the Committee
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has instituted the ‘MHRD Innovation Cell (MIC)’ with the aim of cultivating a culture of innovation across Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). MIC’s core objective is to stimulate, motivate, and cultivate innovation among young students, providing them with support to develop new ideas and translate them into prototypes during their formative years.
MIC aims to promote the establishment of ‘Institution’s Innovation Councils (IICs)’ within chosen HEIs. These IICs will form a network to foster innovation within the institutions through various channels, ultimately creating an ecosystem conducive to innovation on campus.

To foster and enhance close collaborations between academia and industry, aimed at mutual advancement across academic, research and development, innovation, and outreach endeavors.
Mission
- Establishing collaborative partnerships with industry and research organizations across diverse fields through Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to facilitate interaction and cooperation.
- Implementing a structured framework for engaging with industry to enhance the skills of students and faculty.
- Facilitating resource-sharing among partners for collaborative projects.
- Offering students and faculty exposure to industry to enhance their capabilities in line with evolving industry needs.
- Cultivating an innovative environment conducive to generating intellectual property.
Functions of the Committee
- Promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campus.
- To conduct various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central MIC in time bounded fashion.
- Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Implement innovation and entrepreneurship activities mandated by the Central MIC within specified timeframes.
- Recognize and incentivize innovations while disseminating success narratives.
- Coordinate workshops, seminars, and interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals to establish a mentorship network for student innovators.
- Forge connections with peer institutions and national entrepreneurship development bodies.
- Establish an Institution’s Innovation portal to showcase innovative endeavors undertaken by faculty and students.
- Coordinate hackathons, idea competitions, and mini-challenges in collaboration with industry partners.
