About the Committee

The Department of Women & Child Development has a Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) desk which is presently dealing with 03 schemes: Scheme for Implementation of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Scheme of Working Women’s Hostel and Scheme for Delhi Commission for Women. Recently, on 25/11/2009 the Safe Delhi Campaign was launched by the Department to create a strategic framework for making planned interventions to make the city safer for women.

The Department is also running 01 statutory institutions under Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act 1956 namely NirmalChhaya and 03 non statutory institutions namely Widow Home, After Care Home and Short Stay Home for destitute women.

  • Empowering women is essential to the health and social development of families, communities and countries. When women are living safe, fulfilled and productive lives, they can reach their full potential, contributing their skills to the workforce and can raise happier and healthier children.
  • Women empowerment cell aims at empowering and orienting women to recognize their true potential and to help them attain their own stand in the society. Its goal is the overall development in all spheres of their life.
  • Women Empowerment Cell is designed to empower women socially, economically, politically and legally with a focus on promoting decision making. It conducts various activities and arranges Guest Lectures to accelerate the academic enhancement, leadership development and cultural enrichment in the lives of young women.
  • Thus Women Empowerment Cell is mainly emphasizing and focusing on the upliftment of women and creating awareness among the girls and women for reaching their full potential in the working institution, in their society and in their family.

Constitutional provisions for women empowerment:

  • Article 14 – Men and women to have equal rights and opportunities in the political, economic and social spheres
  • Article 15(1) – Prohibits discrimination against any citizen on the grounds of religion, race, caste, sex etc.,
  • Article 15(3) – Special provision enabling the State to make affirmative discriminations in favor of women
  • Article 16 – Equality of opportunities in matters of public appointments for all citizens
  • Article 39(a) – The State shall direct its policy towards securing all citizens, men and women, equally, the right to means of livelihood
  • Article 39(d) – Equal pay for equal work for both men and women.
  • Article 42 – The State to make provision for ensuring just and humane conditions of work and maternity relief
  • Article 51 (A)(e) –To renounce the practices derogatory to the dignity of women

Women Empowerment cell in the Meenakshi college of Engineering is mainly working to create the spacing for women to live in the carefree environment.

Objectives

  • To Conduct meetings to emphasize in creating the empowering platform
  • To organize events and activities for women empowerment and to create an environment to realize their full potential.
  • To conduct awareness programs with a motive to train girls about self-defence, health benefits and skill development.
  • To up-skill the women about her status in the society through education, raising awareness, literacy and training.
  • To make her a strong decisive making personage
  • To work for the exhilaration of women
  • To develop the self-confidence of Women and appreciate their role in the society.
  • To emphasize the various constitutional laws, amendments and the benefits given by various NGOs and the Government
  • To give counseling for women to come out of their inferior feelings

Mission

  • Creating awareness among the female students about their social, legal and constitutional rights to survive in the secured environment.
  • Providing platform to express their views ideas through various activities like folk playing, singing, poem writing, Debate etc.,
  • Endowing the scope of expressing their ideas, problem solving techniques, perspective knowledge, adorable thinking without any barrier.
  • Motivating to move forward in every footsteps of life for better reincarnation.
  • Stimulating the positive thinking to acquire the enlightened track in their journey.
  • Emphasize ethical value, positive self-esteem and confidence in the young women to make them stronger in decision making.

Functions of the Committee

  • To promote Gender Sensitivity by conducting awareness programs and integrating gender studies into the curriculum to foster a culture of equality
  • To support and counseling by providing emotional, psychological, and career counseling services to female students and staff, including establishing help lines
  • To implement safety measures on campus and enforce anti-harassment policies through internal complaints committee
  • To organize workshops and seminars focused on skill development, leadership, and career advancement for women.
  • To promote women’s health through awareness programs, health camps, and wellness initiatives
  • To develop and enforce gender equity policies, and regularly monitor and assess their effectiveness
  • To engage with local communities and collaborate with external organizations to support and advocate for women’s empowerment.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • To finalize on all the matters relating to Admissions of the students of both UG & PG level.
  • To issue a notification for spot admissions as per the guidelines issued by the State Government and concerned competent authority.
  • To prepare eligible criteria for admission under Management (MGMT) and Government (GOVT) quota.
  • To place advertisement in the newspapers regarding admissions as and when permitted by the chairman of admissions.
  • To prepare the list of surrendering of the seats of UG and PG courses.
  • To facilitate admission for lapsed seat of UG and PG courses.
  • To convey to the management through Principal on improving facilities from the feedbacks got from parents and students during admission.
  • To submit the list of Admissions made by the college to the concerned competent authorities and get approved.
  • To submit the admissions list to the authorities, and seeks for their approval.
  • To liaise with DOTE (GOVT) as well as Consortium (MGMT).
  • Verification of certificates for getting approval.
  • In consultation with the departments prepare attractive brochures, prospectus and hand-outs for wider publicity.
  • To prepare admission related documents.
  • To make an arrangement for consortium exam for UG and PG courses.
  • To prepare daily vacancy report and update to authorities.
  • To assist the students and to interact with the parents during admissions.
