BEST PRACTICE - 1

TITLE : STUDENTS STUDENTS DONATION TOWARDS GOD’S OWN KIDS:

Students are having several learning experiences in their life both in College and beyond. But this particular visit every year to the ashram left a perpetual effect on the students and has shaped their character. Basic research on a few ashrams were done by the faculty and shortlisted few, which are not established and actually need help and attention. One such ashram found is Ramamoorthy Rehabilitation Trust in Ramapuram, Chennai.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PRACTICE :
  • To instill empathy into our students through ashram visits rather than holding sympathy alone towards the kids.
  • To educate the students to dedicate their valuable time to supporting others.
THE CONTEXT

This trust is successfully stepping into the 21st year of its charitable service and is located in the heart of the city in a calm locality in Ramapuram Chennai. Students visit their ashram to spend quality time with the kids.

THE PRACTICE:

Our students visit Ramamoorthy rehabilitation trust in Ramapuram, Chennai every year with different objectives to assess their needs and organize drives to distribute things like clothes, Stationeries and provisions.

ACTIVITIES
A - DANCE AND MUSIC

Students involve themself in dancing and singing with those kids and they are developing the skills of dancing and singing along with the kids. Narrating moral stories to the kids helps to infuse values and ethical practices.

B - CLOTHES DRIVE

The clothes drive was a wonderful experience for our students as they handled keeping the boxes, to inform their fellow students. This activity develops a cumulative effect on charitable practices among the fellow students, friends and relatives through our students.

C - FESTIVAL DRESS DONATION

Students have also donated new clothes for festivals like Diwali, Christmas and Ramzan showcasing unity in diversity among the kids.

D - BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS AND DINNER

Home Cooked food was prepared with utmost care and love by the families of the students to serve a fulfilling dinner to the kids of the ashram for their birthdays along with cake cut celebration.

EVIDENCE OF SUCCESS

The following are the details of the students successfully conducting drives under different topics like arts, clothes donation , food donation, music and dance.

Academic Year No. of MCE students participated No. of beneficiaries in drives like clothes, Stationeries, provisions Dance And Music Festival Dress Birthday Cake cutting and dinner No. of houses visited
2022-23 186 80 56 40 10 1
2021-22 145 72 50 20 3 1
2020-21 Lockdown
2019-20 123 40 43 30 10 1
2018-19 116 36 49 27 4 1
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND RESOURCES REQUIRED

Initially it was a difficult task to find an ashram with genuine requirements where the kids actually get benefited and finally found this ashram with genuine requirements. As there were many students willing to visit ashrams, it was challenging to shortlist a few students alone to visit the kids due to space constraints in the ashram. So we generally take students in small batches during visits.

Tutors shall motivate the students to attend the academic classes beyond regular class hours during 4.15 PM – 5.15 PM. Daily tests are conducted to monitor their progress and to improve their confidence level. While strengthening academic performance of low grade students, soft skill and technical training are conducted exclusively for these students in addition to regular technical training for all students. FEEDBACK POLICY

Academic endeavours require feedback in order to facilitate the ongoing improvement of teaching standards across all programs. With the help of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the institution’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is coupled with a specific online platform for the methodical implementation of feedback mechanisms. This platform controls the full feedback process and is administered through a separate administration account. All academic programs periodically hold feedback sessions to ensure thorough assessment and improvement of the teaching-learning process.

To evaluate the efficacy of instructional strategies and learning objectives, the IQAC now conducts a variety of assessment modalities. In order to support ongoing academic progress, our institution has set up a thorough feedback system for the teaching-learning process. Every year, this system actively requests ideas and recommendations from a range of stakeholders, including employers connected to each program, teachers, alumni, and students. We aim to continuously improve the teaching-learning process by adopting different points of view.

Outlined below is the mechanism employed for gathering feedback from students, faculty, alumni, and employers concerning curriculum aspects and individual courses:

  • Feedback from employers, teachers, alumni, and students are invited through specific ways to guarantee accessibility and involvement.
  • To accommodate a range of preferences and guarantee inclusivity, feedback forms may be sent electronically or by alternative channels.
  • Carefully examining the received input reveals reoccurring themes, opportunities for development, and significant recommendations.
  • Academic administrators and curriculum developers, among other pertinent stakeholders, carefully analyze all suggestions and recommendations that are received.
  • To effectively handle comments, a focus on encouraging an open communication and collaborative approach is made.
  • Appropriate actions are developed and put into practice to address identified areas for improvement, taking into account feedback analysis. These activities may include curriculum updates, pedagogical adjustments, or other initiatives aimed at optimizing the overall learning experience.

Feedback Analysis Process:

  • Feedback provided by stakeholders is consolidated and subjected to thorough analysis.
  • The analysis report is meticulously reviewed during department meetings, involving the department IQAC Coordinator, to identify key insights and areas for improvement.
  • Prior to collecting feedback, specific targets are set for each question or aspect under consideration.
  • These targets serve as benchmarks against which the feedback responses are evaluated.
  • Suggestions and comments provided by stakeholders are reviewed by the respective departments.
  • Each input is carefully examined to understand its implications and relevance to the department’s objectives and goals.
  • If the feedback responses fall below the predefined target levels, necessary corrective actions are promptly implemented.
  • These actions may encompass a range of measures aimed at addressing the identified deficiencies or shortcomings.

Execution of Action / Corrective Measures Taken:

  • Insights gleaned from feedback analysis are translated into actionable items, identifying specific areas requiring attention or improvement.
  • A comprehensive action plan is developed, delineating the steps to be taken, responsible parties, timelines, and expected outcomes.
  • The action plan is crafted with precision to address the identified issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Clear roles and responsibilities are assigned to individuals or teams tasked with implementing the action plan.
  • Accountability mechanisms are established to ensure that responsible parties are held accountable for the timely execution of their assigned tasks
  • Progress towards achieving the desired outcomes is monitored closely throughout the implementation phase.
  • Regular evaluations are conducted to assess the effectiveness of corrective measures and identify any deviations from the intended course of action.
  • Flexibility is maintained to adapt the action plan as necessary based on emerging challenges or changing circumstances.
  • Iterative improvements are made to refine the execution strategy and maximize the impact of corrective measures.
  • Transparent communication channels are established to keep stakeholders informed about the progress of corrective actions.
  • Regular updates are provided to ensure that stakeholders remain engaged and invested in the improvement process.
