About the Department

Meenakshi School of Architecture, approved by Council of Architecture, New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai was established in the year 2009 by the Meenakshi Ammal Trust, Chennai, which is a public charitable educational trust formed for reaching quality education to more and more deserving and aspiring students. The trust members are drawn from various walks of life and are eminent personalities with proven success in education, research and teaching apart from social service.

The College offers the right opportunity to step into the world of Design of Building Environment, Construction & Engineering technology in a confident and successful manner. Handpicked courses are offered in tune with industry requirements and trends in technology development. The vision is to emerge as a center of excellence in technical education and provide an outstanding launch-pad for future technocrats.

The College campus is located in the heart of Chennai city and easily accessible and well-connected from different parts of the suburbs also. A sprawling and spacious layout with a serene and green environment welcomes the students as they step into the College campus. The campus is a well-planned one and has well designed airy and bright Studios & Classrooms, Modern conference and Audio Visual halls, well equipped laboratories, workshops, computer labs, playgrounds, canteen and a health centre.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

PEO1: Become a practicing architect who can provide holistic and innovative solutions to needs and problems of society.

PEO2: Find gainful employment in architectural firms/ building sector and contribute in design and decision making.

PEO3: Be a part of organisations that influence policy and contribute to larger changes in society and environment.

PEO4: Contribute to the discipline of architecture through higher studies, research and development.

PEO5: Become a thinker and entrepreneur who can direct creative vision, explorations, services and products towards a better future in an interconnected world.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (POs)

After going through the five years of study, our B.Arch. graduates will exhibit ability to,

PO1: Analysis and Design Skill: Analyse and design architectural projects of allscales in a competent, innovative and appropriate manner as the situation.

PO2: Understanding of Form and demands of Architecture: :Represent, understand and analyse forms and attributes of architecture in different ways (manual/ graphic/ diagrammatic/ digital means) so as to inform the architectural design process.

PO3: Ability for Cognition, Expression and Communication: Understand situations through experience and express ideas through various modes- reading, writing, speaking, art, cognitive mapping, etc., that are consistent with the self and the world.

PO4: Historical, Social and Cultural Awareness: Identify/ analyse/ understand with sensitivity the various cultural, social and historical aspects of architecture as well as make meaningful and contextual design decisions.

PO5: Critical and Creative Thinking: Critically understand/ theorise existing situations and make positive creative transformations towards the future.

PO6: Knowledge in Making of Building: Understand and contribute to constructional aspects of buildings involving material strength and choice, building component and structural design.

PO7: Support and Services to Buildings: Understand and work out basic and advanced services for a building in an optimal manner so as to enhance the quality of life in a building.

PO8: Environment and Physical Context: Understand the relationships between environment and architecture and design livable buildings that are sensitive to as well as tap the potential of the environment at different scales.

PO9: Skill in Building Analysis and Optimisation of Design: Calculate/analyse building costs and environmental performance and optimise design for varied criteria.

PO10: Profession and Ethics: Serve as a competent and ethical professional architect.

PO11: Life Long Learning, Research and Development: Understand and address specific aspects of the discipline of architecture in depth through rigorous exploratory and experimental studies and research.
