Functions of the Committee
  • Promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campus.
  • To conduct various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central MIC in time bounded fashion.
  • Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
About the Committee

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has instituted the ‘MHRD Innovation Cell (MIC)’ with the aim of cultivating a culture of innovation across Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). MIC’s core objective is to stimulate, motivate, and cultivate innovation among young students, providing them with support to develop new ideas and translate them into prototypes during their formative years.

MIC aims to promote the establishment of ‘Institution’s Innovation Councils (IICs)’ within chosen HEIs. These IICs will form a network to foster innovation within the institutions through various channels, ultimately creating an ecosystem conducive to innovation on campus.

Roles and Responsibilities
Roles and responsibility of Convener:
  • Provide comprehensive leadership and strategic guidance to the IIC.
  • Oversee the holistic functioning of the IIC.
  • Convene meetings, establish detailed agendas, and meticulously monitor the progress of deliverables.
  • Facilitate seamless operations and foster effective coordination among all coordinators.
  • Ensure the robust and effective implementation of IIC activities and initiatives.
  • Responsible for the timely submission of progress and activity reports on the IIC portal.
Roles and responsibility of Member:
  • Mandatorily ensure that the logo of the Institution’s Innovation Council is prominently featured in all brochures pertaining to academic activities conducted by respective departments, including webinars, seminars, and workshops focused on industry interaction, startup development, entrepreneurship, research, and intellectual property rights (IPRs).
  • Develop and implement short-term certificate courses dedicated to the themes of innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Supervise and facilitate the coordination of all innovation initiatives involving both students and faculty members.
  • Oversee and manage all activities related to startups, internships, and intellectual property rights.
  • Share in the collective responsibility for enhancing the success of IIC initiatives through active contribution.
Objectives of IICs
  • Promoting awareness among students, faculty, and staff about the significance of entrepreneurship for career growth and employability.
  • Equipping students and staff with academic resources to understand that innovation—whether in technology, processes, or business—is vital for addressing societal and consumer needs.
  • Encouraging entrepreneurs to innovate with a targeted focus on market niches.
  • Fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among students through experiential learning opportunities, including training in cognitive skills such as design thinking and critical thinking, and hosting sessions with local first-generation entrepreneurs and industry experts.
IIC (IC-201912309) has established in our campus as the norms of innovation cell, Ministry of Education, Govt of India during the academic year 2018-2019.

Our student Mr.Nandhan.K and Mr.KiranKumar from B.Tech Information Technology has won Ist Place in the event project demo on 4.3.2024 SRM institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, Chennai.

The college-level Smart India Hackathon 2024 was held on 9th September 2024 at ANR Hall, Meenakshi College of Engineering. A total of 36 teams from various departments participated, comprising 216 students.
